Movie making reflection:

I learned how to do everything in a movie that I had never before done. I learned how to upload a movie onto a website, and how they can be spliced, edited, add music, and commentary. I learned that it's really not as difficult as I initially thought it would be, it's really just a matter of taking some time to familiarize yourself with the various tools available, then it really doesn't take that long to produce a decent video. I felt that the easiest part of the project was uploading the video itself, and the hardest part was inserting the text in just the right places where I wanted them to be. I feel that such videos will be particularly advantageous for students to find them online even when they're not at school. This also gives parents a chance to follow along while at home.

Now that I've made a video for myself, I know that this is a tool I plan to implement in my classroom in the future. I'm looking forward to utilizing this tool in part because I feel that I will be able to make a wide array of videos that could be easily accessible for students to improve the likelihood of enjoying their overall learning experience.

I had the chance to learn a number of new things about copyright. First of all I learned about the instances in which it's approved to use someone's material and how you you can present it to others. I remember learning that material is to made available for the public domain 100 years after its release, or in the case of an individual performer, 70 years after their death.

Nowadays there are a number of websites that inform students and their parents alike of how you can protect yourself against the potential terrors of the internet. In addition, as an educator I would hope to advise students against improper use of the internet in terms of avoidance of posting personal information and indulging information on chat rooms. Aside from that I would want to be informative to the parents on different monitoring or anti-virus software that could help prevent any issues there.

I learned that copyrights pertain to the rights that are held by an originator of a work which prevent others from infringing upon those works. There are exceptions to copyrights which would allow people to use that material, and again I know after a given amount of time it becomes available to the public domain.Copyleft, from what I understand pertains to a modified version of an original work that is being made available for free.

Meanwhile the Creative Commons is an organization that has been established with the purpose of the creators to have licenses to indicate their work and the conditions upon which those works are to be shared with others. I would hope to educate students on the details of copyright as I didn't understand them growing up so that they can come up with new and interesting ways of educating themselves and others without violating the law. This will encourage them along on their education avenue and bring a new excitement for their exploration.

I've found the website/blog creation process to be very enlightening. This was the first time I ever created a website, so I learned a lot, ranging from uploading graphics to a website, my email address in a new way, and how I could make information more easily accessible for my future students and their parents. I don't feel that the assignment was overly difficult necessarily, but rather because it was my first time it took some time to navigate the blog site and become familiar with how to create, edit, and load. I think I had spent the most time trying to figure out how to upload pictures of my high school, along with the calender/syllabus.

I feel that this could be a very beneficial resource when I'm a teacher one day, especially because I want to make sure that if I'm ever approached by teachers that may be disgruntled because they don't know what's going on in their student's class, I'll be able to direct them to the blog so that they can become familiar with everything they need. Also, I feel it's a great way to keep all of your information organized for my benefit as a teacher.

I feel that general and ease of accessibility would be some of the greatest advantages for putting information on the web that would greatly aid students and their parents. Meanwhile, I see the only potential drawback being that not everyone has access to the internet, but I imagine that in the coming years as this technology becomes more and more feasible, the number of people that wouldn't benefit from having the information online will become fewer and farther in between.
